The Bitcoin and Bitcoin Cash split in 2017 resulted from a disagreement over block size. Bitcoin Cash proponents sought larger blocks for quicker transactions (big blocks), while Bitcoin prioritized smaller blocks for security (small blocks). This contentious hard fork led to the emergence of Bitcoin Cash as a distinct cryptocurrency.
